THE funeral of PCSO (Police Community Support Officer similar to the U.S. CSO Community Service Officer) Steve Lewis who died while on a holiday with his family was held today.

The dad-of-three was on his bicycle when he was in collision with a car near Ilfracombe, Devon, last month.

His funeral took place at Morriston Crematorium at noon.

It was a full police funeral – with horses escorting the cortege from the gates to the crematorium, and a guard of honour to meet it.

Mr Lewis, who was 41, used to play rugby for Cwmtwrch and Ystadgynlais and was a familiar face walking the beat and at public events and schools in !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and Neath.

He became a PCSO in 2006 and worked in Neath and Swansea’s Eastside before joining the community safety department. He was a keen triathlete and was in training to take part in Ironman Wales in September, having competed in the same event last year.

A second male cyclist, aged 43, who was riding with PCSO Lewis at the time of the collision was treated for minor injuries in hospital but later released. The local female driver of the vehicle involved was uninjured.
